Fleet Air Arm History

The Royal Australian Navy first became involved in naval aviation during World War 1 when aircraft operated from the gun turret-launching platforms of RAN cruisers operating with the Royal Navy.

Today the RAN operates helicopters from ships of the Australian Fleet and from the shore base of HMAS Albatross at Nowra, NSW.
