Good progress has been made with a new book covering the life and operations of the RAN's Sycamore helicopter fleet, which saw service in the Fleet Air Arm between 1953 and 1965.
Author Ben Patynowski, who in 2008 published a comprehensive volume on the RAN's Gannet aircraft, is collecting first-hand experiences from former aircrew, along with photographs and other data.
He reports that he has received a lot of information and pictures from ex-FAA members who were associated with the Sycamore during its time in service with the RAN.
He is still looking for more contributions from "anyone who had anything to do with the Sycamores, including personal experiences (good or bad), technical data, photos or slides or anything that could help create of history of its service with the FAA."
Any material offered would be copied and scanned and quickly returned to its owner by registered mail.
Ben plans to self-publish the book in a format similar to the recent Gannet volume, and would be happy to hear also from anyone who would like to be part of the publishing project.
