The two old 'demountable' buildings that once comprised the headquarters of the Fleet Air Arm Association and the Naval Association have been transformed into a modern headquarters building.
Situated between the Fleet Air Arm Museum and the runway perimeter fence of HMAS Albatross, the buildings have been brought together into one, refurbished, redecorated and brought to new life.
A small work crew, and particularly John Arnold who has put many hours into the project, has brought about the change.
The former Naval Association building has become an admin area, while the FAAAA building's two rooms have been opened up into one larger room for meetings and events and as an area to exhibit naval aviation artifacts.
The transformation is extraordinary - and to add further space, a concrete deck has been established outside the entrance on the airfield side, accessible via a ramp.
Historian Bob Geale has suggested the new buildings be named the White Ensign Club, a name which has been enthusiastically adopted.
This led to a search for material from the original club in Nowra, and some of the results of that search can be seen in the decorations which now are part of the display in the new clubrooms.
The clubrooms will now become the meeting place for many of the Association's get-togethers.
Congratulations go to all who have been associated with this project.
Any member in the Nowra area who would like to see the new facilities has been invited to visit on any Wednesday. If the main rooms are not open, go to the smaller administration room and someone will be available.
