Ex-service men and women are being urged to write to their local MP following the Federal Government's recent decision to not alter the indexation method for military superannuation pensions.
The Defence Force Welfare Association wants Association members to approach their federal parliamentarians to seek support to bring military superannuation cost-of-living adjustments into line with other pension plans.
The DFWA says the Federal Government recent decision "leaves the discredited CPI as the sole measure for making the bi-annual adjustments. This prolongs the situation where adjustments for changes to cost of living for our as well as public service superannuation payments are effectively "discounted", cause a reduction in purchasing power and are out of step with other Commonwealth funded payments."
The Association says it has three objectives in its current campaign against this decision:
- find out what is the position of MPs on better indexation for military superannuants;
- encourage local federal members to actively seek a change from the Government; and
- to build a database of the policy position of each MP to help the DFWA more effectively lobby for support in the run-up to the next election.
More details about the campaign are contained in this information sheet (PDF file).
