Two Kiowa helicopters were obtained for the RAN from the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation in 1974. Further aircraft were obtained on loan from the Army from 1978 to support the survey work of HMAS Moresby. Kiowas were a familiar sight at the naval air station HMAS Albatross on training, communications and light utility duties.
