The RAN's second light fleet carrier was HMAS Vengeance, commissioned into the RAN on loan pending the arrival of the Melbourne.

During 1953, she embarked Sea Fury and Firefly aircraft and began work-ups in preparation for Korean War service.

A change of plans saw HMAS Sydney undertake the Korean role, and Vengeance in 1954 was sent to Japanese waters in an aircraft transport role.

She finished her service in the RAN in 1955 and was returned to the RN.
