Return to Slipstream Library: Library

The Slipstream Index is a work in progress.

As each edition is indexed, its contents will be added to this page to enable readers to see what is in each magazine, and/or to do searches on it using key words.

The “Volume” column contains a hyperlink to the relevant copy of the magazine, so once you have identified the material you want you can click on it.  The link will not take you to a specific page, so you’ll need to note what page your article is on before you click.

Remember you can also use Google to try a Slipstream Search for an article. Although it is not particularly effective, it does work on some occasions and will take you right to the SS volume containing the work.

About Searches

Typing in the search box at the top RHS of the table finds information almost instantaneously.  Obviously you can type any field visible in the table: for example, typing ‘Vol 3-1’ in the search box will return all content in edition 3-1 (Volume 3 Number 1).  Similarly typing ‘1990’ in the search box will return all content of all magazines produced in 1990 as well as any entries of any year that contain the string 1990.

The search engine is far more specific than that, however, as it will search for key words in the magazines.  These keywords are not visible in the table but are logical – for example, typing the name of a ship (Melbourne, Hibernia, Albatross etc etc) will show you all articles in all magazines that contain the name of that ship.  Other key words are:

The surnames of people who wrote material or were mentioned in them.

  • Aircraft types as one word (e.g. Seafury, Firefly, Seaking,  Pup and so forth)
  • Names of ships without the prefix “HMS” or “HMAS”  for example, searching for ‘Albatross’ would bring up all articles that used the word.
  • Years:  for example, typing 1990 will bring up all magazines produced in 1990 AND any articles which contain the string ‘1990’ even if the content was in a magazine of a different year.
  • Places:  typing ‘Devon’ for example, would bring up any material in which the place Devon was mentioned.

Complex searches are not possible.

We do not guarantee that every instance of every keyword has been logged into the search engine, but we have done our best and will continue to do so.  Our grateful thanks to Ron Marsh and Paul Norris for their work.

Feedback is welcome.

Marcus Peake, Webmaster

Editions that have been indexed so far are:

Vol 1-1 [Mar90] to Vol 5-4 [Jul93] inclusive, with the exception of Vol 4-4 (which will be added soon). This advice will be updated as more editions are processed.
