Tribunal Approve ADF Workplace Remuneration Arrangement

The Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal have today issued their Decision regarding the 2017-2020 ADF Workplace Remuneration Arrangement (WRA).

As expected, the DFRT approved the joint ADF/Commonwealth proposal for increases of 2% per annum for the next three years.  The first increase will become effective from 02 November 2017, and further 2% tranches will be payable from November 2018 and November 2019, respectively.

The Defence Force Welfare Association and the Returned and Services League both appeared before the Tribunal as Interveners.  Both presented evidence to the effect that the proposed increases would not keep pace with forecast inflation, and that as a consequence ADF members’ pay would diminish in real value.  This was especially true of the more junior members of the ADF, whose lower salary base would result in very modest increases but who had the same cost pressures as everyone else.
