Wreath Laying for LEUT Casadio 30Jan18
A “Last Post” ceremony will be held at the Australian War Memorial on Tuesday 30 January 2018 to acknowledge the loss of LEUT Anthony Casadio, who died in action on the 21st August 1968 whilst serving on the RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam (RAN HFV). He was just 22 years old.
Those wishing to attend should be at the AWM entry at 4.30 PM. Alternatively, you can meet the group for tea/coffee and sandwiches at Poppys cafe in the grounds of the AWM at 3.20. This is to enable all attending to meet with Tony’s sister Virginia visiting from Adelaide prior to the wreath laying. It seems there will be about 20+ attending.
Virginia will lay a wreath as the principal mourner. Admiral Neil Ralph first OIC of the RANHFV (Tony’s Unit) will lay a wreath as Patron of the Fleet Air Arm Association; Rob Ray on behalf of the Naval Association; Colonel Patrick Teague representing the US Army -parent of the 135th AHC; CO 723 CMDR Bruce Willington on behalf of the parent Squadron; Warrant Officer Craig Daniel will read the script. Jennifer of the AWM will brief us on the procedure at 4.30pm. Navy News has been asked to provide coverage.
Any other person wishing to attend the ceremony, which commences at 1655 sharp, is welcome (it would be prudent to arrive a little earlier). The venue is the Commemorative Courtyard at the AWM.
General information about the Last Post Ceremonies can be found here.
If you can’t attend, but wish to view the ceremony you can see it ‘Live Streamed’ though YouTube. Details of how to register are on the AWM site – simply click on this link and then the red ‘Register’ button.
