We have received advice from the niece of JOHN AHERN that he passed away in September 2022 just three months short of his 90th birthday.
She further advised that John was proud of being an FAA veteran and that he always looked forward to receiving Slipstream magazines.
John was born in Ballarat (VIC) on 20 November 1932 and joined the RAN in September 1951 for a six year engagement. His previous employment was listed as a ‘Sheet Metal Worker’, so he would have had an engineering aptitude. Having completed basic training he subsequently qualified as a Naval Airman (Engineering). He served at Albatross and aboard HMAS Vengeance and Melbourne before his discharge in August 1957.
