The FAAAA is saddened to have received advice that ex-Leading Seaman Cook Brian Bowes R59020 died on 12 April 2025 after a short illness. He was surrounded by members of his family.LS Bowes was onboard the Ton-class minesweeper HMAS Hawk during the Malaysia confrontation 1964-66. Between September 1969 and October 1970 he served in the third contingent of the RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam, where he spent many flying hours as door gunner of UH-1 Huey helicopters supporting operations in Vietnam. He always had a lot of respect for the M-60 machine gun. During his time in there he flew with Dave Farthing and Clive Mayo. In 2016 the RAN awarded LS Bowes with his Air Gunners badge, of which he was very proud.
A private funeral was held at Lakes Entrance RSL.
LS Bowes is survived by his wife Margaret and daughters Samantha and Peta, as well as his elder sister Helene. Rest in Peace sailor, your job is done.
