We have been advised that Bernie Brennan, late of Buderim QLD, Crossed the Bar in May 2025. He was 96 years old.
Bernie joined the Navy in September 1945 on a 12 year engagement. His ambition to become a pilot was not realised, however, and he spent a brief spell as a Meterological Observer sailor before being sent to the UK in June of 1951 for Observer training. He qualified the following year and was promoted to Acting Sub Lieutenant.
He subsequently served mostly at HMAS Albatross and aboard HMAS Melbourne, including on 851 and 817 Squadrons (Fairey Firefly)
He discharged in October 1959, having completed his engagement/commission.
