It is with sadness and regret that I must inform you of the passing of NSW Member Ray Burt.
Ray Crossed the Bar on 8 June 2021 and his funeral was held on Friday 18th June at The Chapel, Forest Lawn, Leppington, NSW.
Ray joined the RAN on 7th April 1963 at the age of twenty, He joined HMAS CERBERUS as a Recruit Naval Airman and after his initial training was posted to HMAS ALBATROSDS in June 1963. After completing training as a Naval Airmen Mechanic he joined the carrier HMAS Melbourne in December 1964 were he served until 1966, seeing service in the far east.
Over the next few years he served in various squadrons both at sea on HMAS MELBOURNE and ashore at HMAS ALBATROSS. These Squadrons included 723,724, 805, and 805 B Flight.
Ray took his discharge on 31st May 1982 as a Leading Seaman Air Technical Aircraft. He settled in the Nowra Area and became a member of both the RSL Sub Branch and the Fleet Air Arm Association (FAAAA) during this time he served on the NSW Division of the FAAAA as a committee member and also as Welfare and Pensions Officer. Ray also gave service to the Fleet Air Arm Museum.
In recent years he resided in the Sydney area until his passing.
