It is my very sad duty to report the passing of Ron Christie on or about 29 May 2025.
Ron was one of the inaugural members of the Fleet Air Arm Victoria Division in the early 1980s.
Over the past forty years Ron held every executive position and only stepped down from the committee recently as his health declined.
On a personal level, Ron was a great help to me when I took on the position of secretary and was always available to give me advice.
Ron was a Korean veteran and served from 1948 until 1956.
Ron’s postings included HMAS Sydney, Cerberus, Warramunga, Penguin, Albatross, Lonsdale, Tarangau and Gladstone.
Ron also spent time at HMS Daedalus UK and some months at Manus Island.
Upon leaving he held the rating of LAM (E).
Several years ago Ron was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his service to ex-service organisations, the Fleet Air Arm Association and the Korean Veterans Association.
The Victoria Division made Ron Emeritus President and his name proudly sits at the top of our letterhead.   I know Ron was particularly pleased with this honour.
Although not in the best of health, Ron’s wife Val and family members made sure he attended our last ANZAC Day reunion.   It was great that members were able to catch up with him so recently.
Our thoughts are with Val and the family at this very sad time.

Funeral Details are:
Date: Friday 6th June
Time: 1300
Place: Heritage Funerals, 733 Boronia road, Wantirna, 3152

Yours Aye

Mal Smith, Secretary VIC Division.
