Advice has been received that Bill Cregan, of WA Division, crossed the Bar on Friday 10 November 2017.
Bill joined the Navy as a Junior Recruit Naval Airman on 26 July 1951, and rose quickly through the ranks to retire as a Lieutenant Commander in 1969. He served in many ships including HMAS Sydney and HMAS Vengeance – our first through-deck aircraft carriers. These ships heralded in a modern Fleet Air Arm equipped with Sea Furies and Fireflies, so Bill would have seen the very earliest days of the FAA. He later served on HMAS Melbourne (in 1961), as well as many RN and RAN shore establishments.
Aside from his abiding interest in the FAA Association, Bill had been the Hospital Visiting Member for the North Sub Section Naval Assoc. for some years. His Wife Barbara was a Hostess on the old MMA (McDonald-Miller Airlines) where she worked with former FAA Pilots Barry Roberts (Dec);Brian Poole; John Selsmark.
His funeral will be held at Pinnaroo next Monday 20th November at 3.00pm.
