We have been advised of the sad news that John Deering crossed the Bar on 6 June 2021.

John was an EM(AW) back in the day.  He joined the Navy from Brisbane in July 1958 and after time at Creswell, went to Albatross, and then Melbourne in 1962 and 1964 (delayed trip after the Voyager disaster). Most of his time was spent at Albatross on 816 Squadron Gannets and Wessex. He played hockey and basketball.

After leaving the RAN in 1967, he joined Hawker de Havilland at Bankstown (doing the same job as RAN, but double the pay) .  When de Havilland won the contract to start the Singapore Airforce in 1969, he went there for five years as a Technical instructor.  Many of the contacts he made still remain in contact with his family today.

A couple of years after returning to Brisbane he joined BP refinery where he stayed for over 28 years until retirement in 2004.

Rest In Peace.
