Barry Stanley Herron R37951 was born in Sydney on the 14th of May 1932 and, having been employed as a shop assistant, signed up in November 1949 (aged 17) for a 12 year engagement. Having completed his recruit training he qualified as an EM(Air) and subsequently served aboard HMAS Sydney, Vengeance and later HMAS Melbourne.
He found Navy life agreeable and signed on for a further 8 years to give a total of 20 years of engagement.
His service records are illegible for the most part, and he may well have continued beyond this point. There is a note remarking that he did training on the A4 Skyhawk, so most probably served in 805 Squadron towards the end of his Navy career.
