Advice was received on 17 September 2017 of the death of Ross Stanley Hewitt, ex Radio Mech.

Ross was born on 06 May 1948 in KALGOORLIE WA, and he enlisted in Fremantle.  He  joined up to the JR recruitment program on 8 July 1964 for a 12 year stint, aged 16yrs and 2 months. He trained at Leeuwin until his first posting to Albatross 4 July 1965.

His first sea draft was on HMAS Melbourne from 23 July 1965 and lasted just six months before a short return to Albatross. He joined the “real navy” with a draft to Cerberus 10 March 1966, before returning to Albatross 26 December 1966.

Ross’s sentence to Albatross was relieved when he did another stint on the Melbourne 19 Apr 1969 to 17 Jul 1969. His DEE date was 7 Jul 1976.

The Fleet Air Arm Association extends its sympathy for his loss. May he ever rejoice in that great big Birdie Land in the sky.
