Warren Keith JONES – Aircraft Handler First Class
Born 12th September 1933 at Inglewood in Perth, Western Australia.
His father joined the RAAF in 1939, so was rarely home during Warren’s younger years.
His early school years were at Inglewood Primary School, but his education was spasmodic and by his words, “uninteresting”. By the age of fourteen Warren had left school and for the next 3 years worked in various occupations including as a salesman for Wesfarmers, also as a roustabout mustering sheep and cattle in WA’s mid-west.
Warren joined the Royal Australian Navy at HMAS Cerberus on the 28th April 1951 (age 17).
After initial training, Warren was posted to HMAS Albatross where he did his training course as an Aircraft Handler.
Over the next couple of years, Warren served on HMAS Sydney, HMAS Vengeance and at HMAS Albatross before returning to HMAS Sydney on the 14th August 1953.
Shortly after, HMAS Sydney sailed to assist the United Nations Allied Forces in Korea, Warren served in the war zone from 27th October 1953 thru to 2nd June 1954.
On return to Australia, his Squadron returned to HMAS Albatross where he served in various duties, before being posted to HMAS Leeuwin in Fremantle, as the Captain’s Driver, from where he was discharged on the 11th September 1957.
On leaving the Navy, Warren purchased a Taxi, and during this time he met his wife Patricia (one of his Passengers), they were married in 1958.
After his Taxi days, Warren completed a 6-month Sheet Metal Course and worked for S.W. Hart Engineers for 11 years before leaving and starting his own company specializing in Commercial Kitchen, Hospital and Hotel equipment.
Warren was an active member of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports (CAMS).
Apart from his service medals Warren received the KOREAN WAR VETERANS MEMORIAL MEDAL of GRATITUDE, (above).
Upon his retirement, Warren joined the Fleet Air Arm Association of Australia on the 5th November 2001 and remained a staunch member, until his passing in Perth on the 12th April 2026.
Warren leaves behind Patricia, his wife of 68 years, a son Greg, daughter Kim and grandson’s Sean and James.
