Advice has been received from Neil Macmillan’s daughter in law that he crossed the bar on 16th September 2024 at the age of 94. No further details are available at this time.
Neil was born in Chewton VIC on 20 October 1927, and enlisted in the Navy in Melbourne in February of 1948 for a period of 12 years to be an aircraft artificer. Having completed his basic training at HMAS Cerberus he was sent to the UK, as was the practice at that time, to undertake his aircraft technical training and served at HM Ships Condor, Blackcap, Belfast, Gannet and Daedalus.
He returned to Australia in mid 1951 and served on 723 and 851 Squadrons at Albatross and frequently aboard HMAS Melbourne. Navy life appears to have agreed with him and he extended his engagement for a further period before paying off in February of 1965 at the rank of CPO Aircraft Artificer (CAA (A/E).
