We have been advised of the death of John Nestor on 26 May 2023.
John was born in Melbourne on 26 August 1937 and his early occupation was listed as ‘clerk’, as he had worked in the Australian Tax Department for a short period. He joined the Navy in August 1955 for a six year commission as a pilot.
He completed his pilot training on No.22 course in June of 1956 and went on to fly Fireflies, Sea Furies, Gannets and Sea Venoms. He discharged in 1963 at the rank of Lieutenant.
John then joined Trans Australian Airlines (TAA), but left after the pilot’s strike in 1989 and worked for a charter company in Egypt for a year before joining Singapore Airlines, where he stayed until retirement.
John lost his first wife in the 1960s but is survived by his second, Solange, his son Peter and four grandchildren. We offer his family our deepest condolences.
