We have been alerted by Bob Mummery to the passing in Gosford on 25 May of Ron Robb after a period of illness.
Ron was a well known and extremely well respected Engineer (AE) at HMAS ALBATROSS and MELBOURNE.
Born in 1934 in Sydney, Ron joined the RAN in June 1952 at HMAS CERBERUS as a Naval Airman, and was posted to ALBATROSS and then NIRIMBA the following year. He was promoted to Sub-Lieutenant (SDEN) in 1963. Devoted to his profession, he was held in high regard as an operational Engineer and as an instructor at NIRIMBA.
Neither of your editors was privileged to serve with Ron and we would appreciate any input from you all so that we can prepare a more detailed summary of his life and career. In the meantime and to ensure timely notice of his funeral arrangements, we can advise that a memorial service will be held on Friday 5 June 2026 at 11:00 am at the Green Point Baptist Church, 386 Avoca Drive, Green Point NSW.
