Arthur Joseph Rowe (R.51882) passed away on January 27th, 2022 aged 83. Arthur continued to live at home as long as he was able to, but advancing Parkinson’s disease meant that he had to enter aged care in August 2020.

Arthur joined the Royal Australian Navy from 1956, serving on the HMAS Melbourne and was discharged in 1962 on his 24th birthday.

During the late 1980s, Arthur authored an Australian historical fiction. Painstaking in his research of Australian military history, and modeling the life of one character on his own experiences in the RAN, the manuscript sat, unpublished, in his filing cabinet for over 30 years, until his daughter uncovered it when helping to sort his house during his transition to aged care. She decided to edit and self-publish his book, Wilga Creek, so that he could see his legacy in print before he passed away.

Arthur was the proud father and father-in-law of Roslyn (Monte), David (deceased) (Lisa), and Doug. He was a much loved poppy to Cain, David Jr (deceased), Jess, Kahni and Jordan.

A memorial service will be held for him on Monday 7th March, 2022 at 10am at St Mary’s Anglican Church, 455 Main Street, Kangaroo Point, Qld.
