It is with much sadness that I pass on the news of the death of a term-mate and good friend, Bob Salmon. According to elder brother Marty, Bob suffered a massive heart attack on Monday 02 November 2015 while working out on his rowing machine at his home in Orange, NSW.
Commodore Vince Di Pietro, COMMFAA, had the following words to say in a recent message:
‘Notwithstanding my personal recollection of [Bob Salmon] as one of the trusted, professional elder S2 statesman of the FAA when I first arrived into the fold in 1977, most recently at the last reunion at HMAS WATSON I had the pleasure of a long conversation with him about the state of the Fleet Air Arm and what was occurring here at NAS and in the Fleet in Naval Aviation. He was enthusiastic, genuinely thrilled and possessed a boyish glint in his eye that such progress had been made. Regrettably, he won’t be able to take me up on my invitation to visit HMAS Albatross at any time to see for himself. Vale, Bob.’
Bob’s funeral will be held at HMAS WATSON at 1300 on Friday 13 November with the wake afterwards at a local hotel.
