We have been advised that Dennis Charles Stone passed away on 09 September 2023, after a protracted battle with lung cancer. He was 81 years old
Dennis was a native of Adelaide, SA, having been born there on 14 April; 1942. He was initially a canvas worker but it was not to his liking, and so he joined the Navy in Sept 1963 and became an Aircraft Handler. He was on the HMAS Melbourne when it struck HMAS Voyager.
Dennis signed on for 12 years of service, which he completed in 1975. He had always had an interest in speedway sidecars, and so it was unsurprising that when he left the Navy he was in the transport industry until his retirement.
Dennis had been living in Beaufort Vic for 15 years, and rejoiced under the nickname “Shonky”, which was earned well before he joined up. A less fitting nickname would be hard to find.
