Trevor Henry Tite was born in Booval in Queensland on 3/11/1930. He began working in the Box Flat Coal Mine in Ipswich when he finished school.

He then enlisted in the Navy for 12 years.  His early days in the Service were standard for the time, starting at HMAS Cerberus (VIC) for his basic naval training before posting to HMAS Albatross in October of 1948 where he was rated Naval Airman 4 to commence his Aircraft Handlers’ course.

His first posting was to the Fleet Air Arm’s only aircraft carrier of the time, HMAS Sydney, which he served on from August 1949 to April 1952.  This encompassed Sydney’s deployment to SE Asia to take part in “The Forgotten War” on the Korean Peninsula, a role which she and her ship’s company performed with distinction.   As an Aircraft Handler Trevor would not only have been central to the successful operation of her aircraft, but would have lived and worked in extreme conditions aboard including weathering Typhoon Ruth and surviving a bitter Korean winter.

Towards the end of his initial engagement Trevor signed on for an additional period of time, taking is total service to just over 14 years.   Most of this was spent at Albatross, apart from a year aboard HMAS Melbourne in 1957/58. He paid off on 26th September 1960 at the rank of A/Petty Officer Aircraft Handler.

After the Navy in 1960, he worked briefly at the Redcliffe Fire Brigade. In 1961 he enlisted into the RAAF for 6 years as a Service Policeman and spent 6 months on detachment in UBON Thailand during the Vietnam conflict. Discharged from RAAF June 1967 before moving to Thornlands in Queensland where he built a War Service home. He then worked for English Electric and the Brisbane Airport as a Security Supervisor until he retired in 1991.

Trevor was a staunch supporter of the Fleet Air Arm Association of Australia, serving as an office bearer in QLD Division for many years.  He was awarded Life Membership in 2011 for exceptional service to the organisation.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine, of 57years, two daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren who all loved him dearly.
