We have been advised by the daughter of Kenchol George Barrett that he crossed the Bar on 01 July 2023, aged 94.
Kenchol was born on 27 June 1929 and enlisted as a Direct Entry (Tradesman) Electrical Artificer (EA4) on 18 July 1951. He served aboard SYDNEY on her second deployment to Korea with 850 Squadron (Sea Furies).
He paid off in July 1957 but was did reserve time for a short period before re-engaging in mid 1959, rising to the rank of Chief EA(Air) before being promoted to Sub Lieutenant in April of 1966. He spent most of his remaining years instructing at HMAS NIRIMBA, before finally paying off towards the end of 1980 with the rank of Lieutenant.
Kenchol was cremated and his ashes scattered at sea, not far from Eden NSW.
