It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that Tasmanian Division member Les Kube, T1392, passed away on the morning of Thursday 5th January 2023.
Leslie John Kube was born at Hobart on 13 May 1940. While training as an apprentice builder he enlisted in the RAN, at Hobart, as a recruit Naval Air Mechanic on 29 July 1957. After basic training at HMAS Cerberus (FND) he was posted to HMAS Albatross where is began trade training as a NAM (AE). He was then attached to various squadron working on Sea Venom and Fairey Gannet aircraft. In April 1959 he served on HMAS Melbourne with 816 Squadron and over successive years was variously posted to HMAS Albatross for further training and then doing sea time with different squadrons on HMAS Melbourne cruising Australian, Pacific, and Southeast Asian waters, including time with the Far East Strategic Reserve. During his time at Albatross Les active in the popular HMAS Albatross Yacht Club spending many weekends racing and sailing on the Shoalhaven River where the club had a boat shed. After reengaging for a further 2 years 8 months service, Les left the navy (DEE) on 25 November 1964, returning to Hobart.
The funeral was held on Thursday 12th January 2023 10am at Turnbull”s Funerals in Letitia Street, North Hobart followed by interment at Kingston Lawn Cemetery.
