We have been advised of the death of CMDR Haddon Spurgeon RAN (Retd) who died on 22 December 2020 aged 90.
He entered the RANC as a Cadet Midshipman in 1944 and served in the RAN until 1977. He trained as a Navy Fleet Air Arm Pilot and served much of his career at sea in Melbourne and at Albatross, including as a Fairly Gannet pilot. He was the first RAN pilot to command at sea, having served as XO of HMAS Dutchess and CO of HMAS Quickmatch. His charitable trusts supports Young Endeavour.
Haddon was the son and grandson and nephew of distinguished and decorated RAN officers.
The funeral service was held on on Thursday 31 December at the Mitchell Crematorium
