Advice of the loss of ex-MIDN Ken Vandenberg was recently received as follows:
‘When the SL Mids of March ’69 arrived at the CERBERUS Gunroom, two Midshipman SL birdies – Steve (Stan) Gillard & Ken Vandenberg were in residence awaiting Observer courses. I don’t think either completed the course & left soon after with Ken subsequently joining the RAAF. Stan passed away a couple of years ago.
I finally re-connected with Ken last Aug after 48+ years & was to see him again this coming August. Sadly he was killed in a motorbike accident at Hill End on the 18th April 2018 & his partner Mary has advised the following on Facebook:
A Celebration of Ken Vandenberg’s life will be held on Thursday 3 May 2018 at 12.00 Noon at Leura Memorial Gardens, Leura and afterwards at Blackheath Golf Club, Brightlands Avenue, Blackheath.
I’m sure Ken would like a colourful send-off !’
