RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam – The 5th Contingent

Dec 28, 2016

Can You Help?

Between October 1967 and June 1971 four deployments of RAN personnel served in the Helicopter Flight Vietnam.  A Heritage article of this period of our history can be found here.

Not many of the history books will tell you that there was a 5th Flight in the making.  This Flight had been constituted to replace the 4th contingent, but was never deployed as the Government of the day withdrew RAN forces earlier than had been originally expected.

The FAAAA is keen to record the names of people in the 5th contingent, together any history or stories associated with them:  for example, the progression of their training, how far they got and so forth.   A photograph of the contingent can be found below, but it contains errors and omissions.  Your assistance in correcting them (and adding any other information) would be much appreciated.
